Beauty professionals from across the country enjoyed a busy weekend Sydney International Spa and Beauty Expo, held at Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. Numbers were up two per cent from last year and the halls were buzzing with visitors throughout the two days.
Jazz Pampling’s Eyebrow Shaping and Liz See’s Get Threaded seminars had such high demand that extra sessions were made and subsequently all sold out.
Rae Morris’s workshops, Express Makeup and A Career in Makeup were also packed and sold out. While makeup artist Nigel Stanislaus did his first workshop at the expo a 3-hour workshop that discussed industry secrets including tips to gain success and getting ahead in the business of makeup artistry.
The Face2 Face Makeup Competition had a high calibre of contestants this year and many special guest judges from the industry including Professional Beauty’s Jennifer Teal (deputy editor). The awards were coordinated by Becca Gilmartin. Winners included Film Fantasy Category winner – Vanessa Puglisi; Film Fantasy Special Effects winner – Judith Walker; Runway Inspired winner – Vivianne Tran; Bridal winner – Karla Macmang; Beauty Editorial winner – Vivianne Tran.
The Manifest Nail Awards also showcased some fantastic talent this year and brought international judge Sam Biddle to the expo, which was coordinated by Tracey Boyle.
The exhibitors we spoke to at the expo were having a great time. Mariza Nuttall, director of Good Looking Beauty said at the show, “It is awesome to see our clients from Perth and Adelaide and connect with them as often it is more difficult servicing them as they are away. We have had fantastic, busy days. We have launched a whole new hand-piece called cryptolysis, which is a great new tool for salon owners to add to their business. We have been educating clients on mono-polar bi-polar technology, radiofrequency, ultrasound, and our quick and efficient new laser MedioStar, which has no consumables or moveable parts.”
Pete Lykissas, director of SwitchFunky, said “We’ve seen a lot of our own clients and new people too. We’ve launched a couple of new products including the Minx Retail for Professional Line and the Mousse Light product remover for soak-off gel polish. We have found the show to be busier than last year and have met some good, genuine buyers. This is one of the only times in the year that we can connect personally with our clients and see them face-to-face.”
The 2013 Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo will be held on the 24th and 25th August 2013.
